SOE can't get enough Star Wars?

Tralmek's picture

The rumor mill has been spinning since September that Sony Online Entertainment is working on another Star Wars MMO. This one is to be built on the same browser-based game engine they use for Free Realms and will be called Clone Wars.

Set in the Clone Wars era, the game will focus on a casual-social gameplay style much like Free Realms, and will therefore not be a direct competitor for the existing Star Wars licensed SOE MMO, Star Wars Galaxies, nor the upcoming Knights of the Old Republic game from Bioware.

Pirates of the Burning Servers

Sony Online Entertainment has announced that they will be shutting down three of their servers for Pirates of the Burning Sea. As of March 5, 2010 the Blackbeard, Defiant, and Rackham servers will be closing. Because of this, SOE is offering free character transfers starting February 5, 2010, allowing you to transfer to the two remaining servers, Antigua or Roberts.

SWG Server Shutdowns

It is unavoidable. It is your destiny. It was officially (and inevitably) announced today that Star Wars Galaxies will be closing 12 of its servers on October 15, 2009. SOE officials are quick to note that this is not a precursor to the game itself shutting down, but merely to keep the server resources manageable.

Ambulation, Walking in Stations, Incarna

InterestingJohn's picture

So many names, so few mentions of a release date. How I long for this long-overdue feature of EVE Online to come to fruition. It seems that WiS has a new name, a new official name, Incarna (incarnation, I suppose). It has been reported that Incarna will come after the winter expansion Dominion and before the new EVE game Dust 514. Dominion will be coming in this fall/winter and Dust 514 will reportedly be released sometime in 2010. One would logically conclude that Incarna will become the Spring 2010 expansion, putting it around March-May. Though there is still no confirmed date.

NC Soft will be making an announcement sometime this week about Aion moving into Open Beta before it's Sept 22nd release date. NC Soft recently wrapped up it's closed beta with their 6th Beta Event from August 14th - 17th.

Aion is an English port of the incredibly popular Korean MMO of the same name. The American developers have also done a lot to make the game more suited to a western audience, things like increased customization, turning "click to move" off by default and giving the keyboard layout the standard western treatment are just a few of the changes.

Star Wars: The Old Republic Gameplay Footage

Bioware & LucasArts say they're making another Star Wars MMO...actually the way they talk, you'd think they were making the first Star Wars MMO. They like to ignore SWG.

Champions and Spellborn News

A bit late on the updating for this one (probably because I've been too busy playing). But Champions Online is now in Open Beta. "Open" can be loosely translated into "if you pay someone some money", you can either gain entrance into open beta by pre-ordering the game, or by subscribing to file planet. Either way It's pretty worth it. The game is still a bit rocky right now as they iron out the kinks before launch, but boy is it fun!

Steve Long, of Hero Games, creators of the Champions Pen & Paper RPG will be attending SpoCon 2009 this year in Spokane, Washington July 31st to August 2nd. Steve has been working very closely with the Champions Online team to ensure that the MMO lives up to it's Pen & Paper counterpart. This is an excellent opportunity to learn more about Champions and Champions Online from the man who knows more about Champions than anyone!

The Wagon, And My Relationship With It

InterestingJohn's picture

I'm not sure whether this is me falling off the wagon, or climbing back on. But I think I'm going to be re-subbing to EQ2 at least for a month, I've been thinking about it a bit recently, I do miss the exploration and fun quests. I don't miss the repetitive looking gear (though I hear they've added more and the appearance slots help). So we'll see where it goes. I think my stint in CoH is over, I probably won't delve into superheroes again until Champions Online releases in September.
